How To Keep Kids Entertained at a Wedding
While a lot of people choose to not allow children at their weddings, kids can bring energetic and infectious energy to the atmosphere! Some couples also may have lots of beloved little ones in their lives that they want to be a part of their special day. But they may wonder how to keep their little attendants entertained. Weddings are a long and dull experience for kids. Bored kids can cause chaos, so below are 5 tips to keep them comfortable and happy on your treasured day!
1. Hire Professional Help
This could be in a separate room or just a designated kids table. A babysitter can set up arts & crafts, games or a movie room to keep the kiddos occupied. They’ll keep an eye on all the kids so that the adults can enjoy their time freely. They’ll also make sure the kids are staying clear of anything dangerous such as candles or breaking anything expensive.
2. Cocktail Hour Games
If your reception is outdoors, set up some simple kid-friendly lawn games such as twister, hula hoops, cornhole or connect 4 to keep the kids entertained during a lull time like cocktail hour. Adding an
entertainer such as a magician or clown during this time would be memorable for them as well and allow the parents to chat and enjoy themselves knowing their kids are safely occupied.
3. Table Placemats
Create or print a wedding-themed “I Spy”, scavenger hunt or word search paper activity for the table that kids can complete during those toasts or restless dinner moments. You can even set crayons and paper on the tables for the kids to create a wedding card for the couple as a craft. Just make sure everything is non-messy.
4. Let Them Dance
Get the kids to burn energy quickly by playing kid-friendly bops at the beginning of the party before the adults hit the dance floor. Let them have a dance-off or control the playlist for a set amount of time They’ll set the party mood and it’s a great moment for the photographer to capture!
5. Don’t Let Them Get Hungry
Hangry kids cause trouble! During cocktail hour, make sure to have kid-friendly appetizers that come out immediately or pre-made snack bags for the kids. Ask your caterer for a specific kids menu during dinner and attempt to have their meal come at one-time, rather than gradually throughout the night like a typical 3 course adult menu takes. If it is a buffet, make sure they are served first.
