You already made the biggest decision of your wedding journey by saying yes to your finance! Now is the second biggest decision you’ll make, your wedding venue. You want your wedding day to be perfect, and picking the perfect wedding venue is essential. Choosing a space that aesthetically matches your vision is

great, but more importantly, the logistics behind what a venue can restrict and allow will make or break your special day. It is also the largest part of your budget, so you want to make sure you get it right!

We recommend hiring a wedding planner BEFORE you book your venue so they can go on the site tour with you and ensure that this venue can accommodate all your vision and needs.

Once you’ve fallen in love with a few venues and you’re ready to go on site tours, take this checklist of

questions to ask BEFORE you put down any deposits. Jot down the answers as you go so you can compare between your venue options.

The Basics

1. Do you have my date open?
2. How many weddings do you do per year, and how long have you been in business?
3. Is a rehearsal included in the price? What are my options for rehearsal dates?
4. Can you accommodate elderly or disabled guests?
5. What if any are the volume restrictions?
6. How many weddings/events do you host in one day?
7. Is there ample parking? Will guests be charged for parking?
8. If we use an outside cake designer, do you charge a cake-cutting fee?
9. Are there hidden costs like a service charge, gratuity, cleaning fees, or overtime charges?
10. Do you work with specific vendor partners? Do we have to use these vendors? If not, are there any other limitations on working with outside vendors?
11. What is the refund or cancellation policy?

Business Matters

1. If my event runs longer than contracted, what are your overtime fees?
2. What is the last date by which I can give you a final guaranteed guest count?
3. What is your payment policy? Do you accept credit cards?
4. How much of a deposit is required to hold my date? When is the final payment due?
5. Are there any fees that won’t be included in the proposal that we should be aware of?
6. Once we book with you, how quickly can we expect a contract? And if we make changes, will you update us with a revised estimate and contract?

Final Tip

Once you found the venue that is ‘The One‘, follow up after the visit with an email confirming all their answers to make sure everything you’ve discussed is in writing and they just weren’t verbally saying yes during the site tour to butter you up.
